Born and raised in Oregon. I moved to Canada in 1971...I feel Canada is my home and love this country.. My hubby and I have been married 34 years. We have two grown sons. We moved to Hudson’s Hope in 1977 and took my first watercolor workshop in 1978.. I knew at that first workshop that watercolor was my medium,
It was love at first stroke of the brush... I’ve been lucky to have taken a few workshops along the way from some very talented artists such as Gordan Henschel, Ted Harrison, Maurade Baynton and Chetynds own Ken Crowle. It was at Ken’s class that I decided to start teaching my friends at home and now I teach all around the Peace country...It’s been 17 years and I still love teaching what I know.
Basically I teach step-by-step watercolor painting. People don’t need to have any drawing or painting experience, just a desire to put paint to paper... I will teach you to paint like me in class from one of my originals, so you’ll learn the techniques. But I want you to fine your own style, by painting at home.. I get very excited when my students say they painted at home... Teaching has taught me even more about solving problems in watercolor painting and bringing back the whites of the paper. You see a true watercolor has no white paint.. Your paper is your white... So think about that, your white is already done for you. You just have to paint around it. As in anything you do it takes practice.
Janis encourages her students to paint at home.???? Her workshops will accommodate 12 people and have attracted folks from age 12 to 86.
There will be an introductory class, She will be teaching watercolor techniques and you’ll apply it to note cards that Janis supplies with envelopes. Students will go home with 3 to 5 note cards this day.
As well she will teach other classes possibly an advanced.
